HOMEWARD

The film Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, tells the story of an astronaut’s journey back to Earth after a catastrophic event in Earth orbit. At the film’s conclusion, the astronaut successfully lands on Earth using the Shenzhou capsule from the Tiangong Space Station. Several scenes depict the Tiangong Space Station breaking apart into burning meteors as it enters the atmosphere. I was deeply moved by these scenes and felt that the flying meteors embody humanity’s indomitable spirit.

This viewing experience inspired me to design Homeward, a light pendant crafted from copper sheets and brass tubes. It features a powered suspension system for LEDs and a G4 bulb socket. The brown metal shell, illuminated by the LED bulb at its core, evokes the image of burning debris streaking through the atmosphere.
