SEEKING

Throughout his life, Oscar Niemeyer endeavored to link his architectural career with something idealistic. In an interview he received in his later years, he stated that: “I am interested in architecture in that I’m interested in life, in political struggle, seeking a better world, one where all are brothers and the human-being is respected.”

This installation work, “Seeking,” not only showcases the aesthetics of Niemeyer’s architecture and design but also metaphorically communicates his endeavor to pursue his utopian vision through his works. The slab-like structure on the left can be perceived as either rising architectural forms or outstretched palms. They point at the curves of a female figure, which symbolizes an idealized life.
